This week's female Covenant Athlete of the Week, for the period ending April 28, 2018, is track and field junior Lilly Smith.

Smith, a junior from Weaverville, N.C., won two events and set two program records to lead the track and field teams at the Atlantic Independent Championships on April 27-28. The junior helped tally 32 of Covenant's points during the weekend. On Friday, Smith placed second in the 800 meter with a program record time of 2:24.24. On Saturday, Smith took home two individual wins as she won the 1500 with a program-best time of 4:49.55 before winning the 5000 meter event with a time of 18:37.36. She then helped the 4x400 team to a season-best time of 4:27.18 and a fourth place finish.

Week 1 (Aug. 28-Sept. 2, 2017)

Addy Cronan - Women's Soccer

Cronan, a sophomore from Knoxville, Tenn., made her Covenant debut on Saturday and tallied two goals and an assist in the Lady Scots' 5-0 win over Berea. The sophomore got the scoring going in the 13th minute of play and then tallied the final goal of the cotnest in the 69th minute. She also assisted on Paige Simons' score in the 22nd minute.

Week 2 (Sept. 4-9, 2017)

Rachel Lemay - Women's Soccer

Lemay, a junior from Apopka, Fla., collected two more shutouts on the week to help Covenant to a 2-0 record. The junior made five saves in a 4-0 victory over Belhaven on Thursday before tallying six saves in a 1-0, overtime victory against Transylvania on Saturday. Lemay and the Lady Scots have yet to allow a goal in three matches on the year.

Week 3 (Sept. 11-16, 2017)

Michelann Settle - Cross Country

Settle, a sophomore from Anderson, S.C., placed 17th overall and set a personal-best time in the 6k to lead Covenant at the Falcon Classic on Saturday. The sophomore finished in 25:11.83 that helped the Scots to an eighth-place finish in the meet. Settle finished 17th out of 104 non-Division I runners.

Week 4 (Sept. 18-23, 2017)

Ginny Moore - Volleyball

Moore, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., posted averages of 4.42 kills and 5.92 digs per set and had double-doubles in all three matches to help lead Covenant to a 3-0 record. She had 19 kills and 26 digs in a 3-1 win over Maryville last Wednesday. In a 3-1 win at LaGrange, Moore had 14 kills, 19 digs and three total blocks. She then capped the week with a season-high 20 kills to go with 26 digs and five aces in a 3-1 win over Piedmont.

Week 5 (Sept. 25-30, 2017)

Lilly Smith - Cross Country

Smith, a junior from Weaverville, N.C., paced Covenant to a team title at the Maryville Invitational with a personal record time in the 6k. The junior finished the course in 24:07.4, setting a personal best, and placing second overall. The time is the fourth fastest 6k in program history. Smith finish led Covenant to its first team title of the year.

Week 6 (Oct. 2-7, 2017)

Lilly Smith - Cross Country

Smith, a junior from Weaverville, N.C., again paced Covenant as she set a personal record in the 5k and led the Scots to a sixth place finish at the Disney Classic. The junior finished the 5k in 19:48.9 and placed 40th overall in an event that featured 227 runners. 

Week 7 (Oct. 9-14, 2017)

Schuyler Moore - Volleyball

Moore, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., put together an outstanding week averaging 10.45 assists, 2.18 kills, while hitting .412, and 3.55 digs as Covenant went 3-0. Moore tallied nine kills, 43 assists and 17 digs in a four-set win at Maryville on Tuesday. She then had eight kills, 35 assists, 16 digs and three total blocks in a 3-1 win over Piedmont before tallying seven kills, 37 assists, six digs, and three total blocks in a sweep of LaGrange.

Week 8 (Oct. 16-21, 2017)

Hannah Harris - Volleyball

Harris, a junior from Rochester, Minn., averaged 2.90 kills, with a .354 hitting percentage, and 0.50 blocks per set to help Covenant to a 3-0 week. The junior led Covenant to a 3-0 win over No. 1 region ranked Berry with 11 kills, two digs and a block on Wednesday. She then had five kills and four total blocks in a 3-0 win over Huntingdon before tallying 13 kills in a 3-1 win over Agnes Scott on Saturday.

Week 9 (Oct. 23-28, 2017)

Lilly Smith - Cross Country

Smith, a junior from Weaverville, N.C., had quite the weekend as she broke a program record in the 6k and was named USA South Runner of the Year. The junior finished second at the USA South Championships with a program-record time of 22:55.0 and was then named the conference's Runner of the Year. Her second place finish also gave her a spot on the All-USA South first team. Smith's 6k time was 49 seconds faster than the previous program mark.

Week 10 (Oct. 30-Nov. 4, 2017)

Schuyler Moore - Volleyball

Moore, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., was named USA South Tournament MVP after leading Covenant to a conference tournament title. The senior setter averaged 8.92 assists, 3.75 digs, and 1.42 kills per set in the tournament. She had 33 assists, five kills and eight digs in a 3-0 win over Huntingdon in the quarterfinals and then 37 assists, 25 digs and five kills in a 3-1 victory over William Peace in the semifinals. Moore's play in the championship helped the Lady Scots overcome a 2-0 match deficit to win the title as she tallied 37 assists, 12 digs and seven kills.

Week 11 (Nov. 6-11, 2017)

Schuyler Moore - Volleyball

Moore, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., was named to the All-Atlanta Region team following her play in the NCAA Tournament. The senior averaged 7.70 assists, 1.20 kills, 3.10 digs, and 0.60 blocks per set. In a come-from-behind win over Birmingham Southern in the first round, Moore had 40 assists, seven kills, 18 digs and five block assists. She then had 37 assists, five kills, six aces and 13 digs in a five-set loss to Berry in the second round. Moore was also tabbed as an AVCA All-South Region first team member earlier in the week.

Week 12 (Nov. 13-18, 2017)

Bekah Walter - Basketball

Walter, a junior from Orlando, Fla., averaged 16.5 points, two rebounds, and two assists per game as Covenant went 1-1. The junior scored a career-high 18 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists in a 59-50 season-opening win over Sewanee last Wednesday. She then led the Scots with 16 points and two assists in a loss at Oglethorpe on Friday.

Week 13 (Nov. 20-25, 2017)

Joanna Smith - Basketball

Smith, a junior from Chattanooga, Tenn., scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Emory last week. The junior shot 8-of-16 from the field to record a season-high in points in the 75-63 loss to the Eagles. Smith also tallied one assist, two steals, and a block in the Scots' lone contest of the week.

Week 14 (Nov. 27-Dec. 2, 2017)

Joanna Smith - Basketball

Smith, a junior from Chattanooga, Tenn., helped Covenant to a 2-1 week by averaging 14.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game. The junior tallied a double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds with three assists and five steals in a 73-69 loss to Birmingham Southern. Smith then had 12 points, eight rebounds, and three steals in a 71-64 win over Berea. Her week was capped with another double-double as Smith totaled 12 points, 14 rebounds and two steals in a 77-66 win over Brevard.

Week 15 (Dec. 4-9, 2017)

Emma Grimes - Basketball

Grimes, a senior from Melbourne, Fla., led Covenant with 15 points in a narrow loss to Berry on Saturday. The senior scored seven of her points in the fourth quarter as the Scots nearly erased a 19-point deficit before falling by one. Grimes went 4-of-7 from 3-point land and added one steal and a block in 25 minutes off the bench.

Week 16 (Dec. 11-22, 2017)

Kaley Hallmark - Basketball

Hallmark, a junior from Oklahoma City, Okla., led the Scots to a 76-68 victory over Belhaven on Dec. 19 with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. The junior scored 16 of her team-high 19 points in the first half. Hallmark was 7-of-8 from the field with five 3-pointers on the day, including a big 3-pointer late in the game that helped seal the victory.

Week 17 (Dec. 25, 2017-Jan. 6, 2018)

Bekah Walter - Basketball

Walter, a junior from Orlando, Fla., averaged 17.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game over a four-game stretch from Dec. 29 to Jan. 6. The junior had 12 points, four assists, and two steals in a loss to Centre on Dec. 29, then had 23 points, three rebounds, and three assists in a 110-103 double-overtime victory at Sewanee on Dec. 30. This week, Walter had 20 points, three rebounds, and three assists in a loss at Maryville before tallying 15 points, two rebounds, and two assists in a 70-68 loss to Huntingdon.

Week 18 (Jan. 8-13, 2018)

Joanna Smith - Basketball

Smith, a junior from Chattanooga, Tenn., averaged a double-double on the week as she totaled 11.7 points and 13.3 rebounds to go along with two steals and 1.3 assists per game. Smith had 17 points, 18 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a loss to Piedmont last Tuesday. The junior then had 12 points and 13 boards in a narrow loss at Huntingdon before scoring six points with nine rebounds, two assists and four steals in a 56-49 win at LaGrange on Saturday.

Week 19 (Jan. 15-20, 2018)

Kaley Hallmark - Basketball

Hallmark, a junior from Oklahoma City, Okla., averaged 12.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and one steal per game on the week. The junior had 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and a steal in a 79-61 loss to Maryville on Thursday before tallying 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and a block in a 68-60 loss to Berea on Friday.

Week 20 (Jan. 22-27, 2018)

Emma Grimes - Basketball

Grimes, a senior from Melbourne, Fla., averaged 18.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game to help Covenant to a 2-0 week. The senior registered a career-high 32 points, with a single-game program record 10 3-pointers, to go along with three rebounds and two steals in a 79-65 win over LaGrange on Tuesday. Grimes then chipped in five points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal in an 81-65 Senior Night win over Agnes Scott.

Week 21 (Jan. 29-Feb. 3, 2018)

Joanna Smith - Basketball

Smith, a junior from Chattanooga, Tenn., tallied 13.0 points with 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game as Covenant went 3-0. In a 72-46 win over Wesleyan, Smith had a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds with three assists and two steals. Smith then had 14 points, eight rebounds and a steal in an 86-78 win at Brevard before totaling 10 points and eight rebounds with four assists and two steals in a 71-58 win at Piedmont.

Week 22 (Feb. 5-10, 2018)

Kaley Hallmark - Basketball

Hallmark, a junior from Oklahoma City, Okla., led Covenant to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. The junior had 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals in an 86-58 win at Wesleyan on Friday before going for 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 62-52 win at Agnes Scott on Saturday.

Week 23 (Feb. 12-17, 2018)

Joanna Smith - Basketball

Smith, a junior from Chattanooga, Tenn., helped Covenant reach the USA South Tournament quarterfinals by averaging 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. The junior had a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds to go with an assist and two steals in a 63-53 first round win at Huntingdon. Smith then had 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a 78-66 loss to Berea in the quarterfinals.

Week 24 (Feb. 19-24, 2018)

Carsyn Stone - Softball

Stone, a junior from Savannah, Ga., was strong in her starts in the circle for Covenant last week. The junior sported a 1.75 ERA in 12 innings of work over two starts. Stone went six innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts in a 3-1 loss at Birmingham Southern on Tuesday. She then surrendered just two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts over six innings in a 2-0 loss at Emory.

Week 25 (Feb. 26-Mar. 3, 2018)

Lilly Smith - Track & Field

Smith, a junior from Weaverville, N.C., set two outdoor program records at the Victor Icebreaker Duals on Saturday. The junior broke her own program record in the 1500 meter event with a time of 4:59.79 and placed fifth in the event to score for Covenant. Smith also broke her own program mark in the 800 as she came in 11th with a time of 2:32.67.

Week 26 (Mar. 5-10, 2018)

Shade Epes - Softball

Epes, a senior from Water Valley, Miss., batted .476 (10-for-21) with six RBIs and seven runs scored to help Covenant to a 5-1 week. The senior went a combined 5-for-8 with a double, two runs and three RBIs in a sweep of Sewanee last Tuesday. She then went 2-for-7 with a run scored and an RBI in a doubleheader sweep at Huntingdon on Friday. Epes capped the week by going 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs in a split at LaGrange on Saturday.

Week 27 (Mar. 12-17, 2018)

Erika Mast - Softball

Mast, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., batted .462 (6-for-13) on the week and had a go-ahead RBI single in Covenant's win over Brevard on Saturday. The sophomore hit safely in each of the final five games of the week, including going 2-for-3 against Maryville on Friday. She went a combined 2-for-4 with two RBIs in Covenant's sweep of Brevard on Saturday and drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning of a 2-1 game one victory.

Week 28 (Mar. 19-24, 2018)

Aly Hall - Tennis

Hall, a senior from Orlando, Fla., was 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles to lead Covenant to a 2-1 record on the week. The senior took a 6-0, 6-4 win over Lizzy Engsberg at No. 1 singles after pairing with Jennie Spielman for an 8-2 win over Anastasia Bennett and Camille Wilson in Covenant's 6-3 victory at Agnes Scott on Thursday. In a loss to Piedmont on Friday, Hall was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Morgan Buchholz at the top singles spot. Hall then picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Brevard's Kelsey Kushner in singles play and took an 8-1 win with Spielman over Margaret Correll and Mekenzie Bowman to lead Covenant to a 9-0 victory on Saturday.

Week 29 (Mar. 26-31, 2018)

Aly Hall - Tennis

Hall, a senior from Orlando, Fla., was 2-0 in both singles and doubles play on the week as Covenant went 1-1. Hall was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Huntingdon's Kacy Howard at the top singles spot on Friday before defeating LaGrange's Jenna Eppes 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday. In doubles, Hall and Jennie Spielman teamed for a 9-8(4) win at No. 2 doubles against Huntingdon and an 8-5 win against LaGrange. Hall is now 13-2 in singles play and has won six straight matches.

Week 30 (April 2-7, 2018)

Cris Gant - Softball

Gant, a senior from Gardendale, Ala., helped Covenant to a first round series win at LaGrange with her complete-game two-hitter in the opener. The senior produced perhaps her most impressive start in her career as she tossed a complete-game, and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, while allowing two runs on two hits with nine strikeouts. Gant's start led Covenant to a 4-2 victory in game one of a best-of-3 first round USA South Tournament series at LaGrange, and the Lady Scots would go on to win the series with a 3-1 game two victory. Over her last four starts, Gant has allowed two runs in 20 innings of work with 29 strikeouts.

Week 31 (April 9-14, 2018)

Lilly Smith - Track & Field

Smith, a junior from Weaverville, N.C., won two events and helped to another program record in the 4x400 at the Mountain Laurel Invitational on Friday. Smith had a hand in 26 points accumulated by Covenant on the women's side. The junior won the 1500 meter run with her personal and program record time of 4:54.66, beating her own program record pace by more than a second. In the 3000 meter, Smith again took first place as she came in at 10:57.56. She then joined Hannah Hennigh, Virginia Kay Roberts, and Abigail Wallace to combine for a time of 4:27.40 in the 4x400 relay, good for third overall and for six points.
