Taylor Named Director of Athletics
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Kyle Taylor has been promoted to Director of Athletics at Covenant, announced Vice President of Student Development Brad Voyles last week.
Taylor had been the Assistant Director of Athletics for External Operations.
Taylor will continue to serve as Head Men's Basketball Coach while also leading the athletic department and the accomplished group of coaches and staff who are dedicated to enhancing Covenant's commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
"Kyle brings a passion for the discipleship and development of athletes and coaches along with a commitment to Covenant's mission and vision for exploring and expressing Christ's preeminence in the area of intercollegiate, intramural and club athletics," said Voyles.
"I am honored, humbled, and if I'm truly honest a little nervous about the opportunity to be the Director of Athletics at Covenant College," said Taylor. "Over the past four years I have really grown to love this place, what it stands for, and where it is headed. I am so grateful to have an opportunity to shape the direction of the athletic department within the scope of the larger mission and vision."
Continued Taylor, "athletics has been incredible at Covenant College and have represented Christ so well, but there is still so much potential for growth. I am looking forward to partnering with the administration, our coaching staff, and the student athletes in that endeavor to reveal and represent Christ to our community through sports."
As Taylor moves into the role of AD, Tami Smialek will be transitioning from the AD role to assume full time duties as the Head Women's Basketball Coach.
Additionally as a part of these transitions, Tim Sceggel will be promoted to the role of Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Operations with primary leadership over athletic compliance.
"Tim Sceggel is invaluable to the athletic department at Covenant College," commented Taylor. "Tim's contributions and impact to our department are beyond measure after just six years. From managing, operating, and continuing to beautify our facility, to top notch home events, to the care and discipleship of our work study students, Tim has humbly served this sports community. Tim works hard, has an eye for detail, is a team player, and servant leader. He will excel in his new role as Associate Director of Athletics."
Sceggel said, "I'm thrilled for Kyle Taylor to move into the position of AD. He a phenomenal man of the Lord and I'm thankful to him for the opportunity to move into a new role myself. I'm excited for the future of Covenant Athletics under his leadership as we move forward in NCAA Division III."
