Bryan, Smith Post Fast Marks for Track & Field at Hilltop

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- William Bryan and Lilly Smith broke program records and set the pace for the Covenant track and field teams at the Hilltop Classic on Friday, hosted by Birmingham Southern.

The men placed fifth in the event with 44 points, while the women were sixth with 22 points.

Bryan set two program and personal records on the day to lead the men's team. The sophomore broke a program record and finished second in the 200 meter with a time of 22.29. Bryan also set a program and personal best in the 400 as he finished first with a time of 49.20. The 400 time for Bryan ranks 10th-best in Division III on the year.

The men's team also saw a program record fall in the 3000 meter steeplechase event as Micaiah Allison placed third overall with his time of 10:29.51. 

Several other personal records were also set for the men. In the 1500, Caleb Aikens was just off his personal-best pace as he finished in a time of 4:18.15 and sixth overall, but Leif Le Mahieu did set a personal record coming in at 4:20.41 and eighth in the race. Tristan Dunlavy set a personal record time in the 400 at 50.48 and was fifth in the event that Bryan ended up winning. In the 100 meter dash, Ari Zorns tied his personal-best mark by finishing seventh at 11.39. Tumah Ngoh came in ninth at 11.71, also a personal best.

Smith also had a big personal and program record. The junior finished second in the 5000 meter run, after passing two Alabama-Huntsville runners late, with a blazing time of 18:29.05. In the same event, Margaret Fitch placed eighth with a personal-best time of 19:33.46.

In the 1500 meter event on the women's side, Hannah Samuels and Michelann Settle both set personal marks. Samuels came in sixth with a time of 5:12.25, while Settle was seventh at 5:14.70. In the 400, Virginia Kay Roberts just missed her best time as she came in sixth at 1:08.28. The women also garnered points in the long jump as Abigail Wallace was seventh after a mark of 3.98 meters and Gracie Holbrook was eighth at 3.91 meters.
