MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's soccer team fell for a second straight time as the Lady Scots were defeated at Maryville, 2-0, on Tuesday night.
Although both teams are members of the USA South, the match did not count towards league standings. Covenant (5-5) and Maryville will meet again on Oct. 19 on Lookout Mountain and that contest will be counted for conference standings.
Maryville (8-2-1) scored both of its goals in the first half. Shannon Reagan opened the scoring in the 11th minute as her shot got past Covenant keeper Grace Buys, assisted by Miranda Lukas. The goal was Reagan's ninth of the year. In the 37th minute, Maryville added to its lead when Jenna Clothier found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Covenant could manage just one shot in each of the halves. The Lady Scots put one on target, but Lizzy Hightower's attempt in the 78th minute was saved by Maryville keeper Abbey Coleman.
Buys made a season-high six saves for Covenant. Making her second straight start at the net, Buys made five saves in the second half to keep Covenant within striking distance.
Maryville held a 20-2 edge in total shots, with Reagan taking four attempts. Hightower and Paige Simons each had a shot for Covenant. It is the first time this season that Covenant has been shut out.
Covenant will travel to Berea on Saturday for a USA South matchup. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
