CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Freshman Chelsea Van Dyk and sophomore Stephanie Kirkpatrick were named to the NCCAA Mid-East All-Region team during the region tournament over the weekend. Head coach Heather Taylor was also named Coach of the Year, while Estes Carlson was an honorable mention.
A native of Manhattan, Mont., Van Dyk adds all-region to her growing list of accomplishments this season. Van Dyk was also voted as the GSAC Freshman and Player of the Year earlier this month and earned GSAC Player of the Week honors twice this season. Van Dyk finished the year with 433 kills (3.77 average) with a .390 hitting percentage. She also tallied 84 total blocks (23 solo and 61 assisted).
Kirkpatrick flourished in her first season as Covenant's primary setter. The sophomore from Rogersville, Ala., accumulated 1021 assists (8.88 average) with 102 kills, and 232 digs. Kirkpatrick was twice named GSAC Player of the Week and earned All-GSAC honors, both athletically and academically. She was voted on to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District for her work both on and off the court this season.
For Taylor, it was her second Coach of the Year award this season. The eighth year head coach was GSAC's top coach this season and led the Lady Scots to a 25-8 record, marking the second straight season Covenant recorded 22 or more victories.
Carlson, a junior from Eaton, Colo., earned honorable mention in the region. The libero led Covenant with 501 digs as she played in all 115 sets this season.
